The Neighborhood

Heart & Hope Place is located in Milwaukee’s Harambee neighborhood. The area is a crucial part of the Milwaukee community. Harambee, which means “pulling together” in Swahili, is an example of effective community-driven urban renewal at its best.  The neighborhood has always had a proud history rich in traditions with its citizens committed to collaborating for a better community. Residents, developers and community leaders have joined forces to develop affordable housing, reduce crime,  initiate human services and educational programs, and improve the quality of life in the neighborhood. Day care, elementary and middle schools are located within the neighborhood. Medical facilities, shopping recreation, and access to downtown Milwaukee via the public bus service are all in close proximity to the development.
